BASKET WEAVING

Fijian basket weaving

We did a basket weaving class where they taught us how to weave a market basket out of coconut palm leaves. You can use them as a basket for the fruit and vege markets or to use in a lovu (underground oven) to put the veges and meat into to cook.

At the start it was super hard we both didn’t know what the heck we were doing but it got easier and was pretty simple in the end when we got the hang of it! The guy who was teaching us said they learn how to do it when they are young so they find it simple.

Bens one came out a lot bigger than mine so I guess he will be carrying the heavy stuff at the market 😉

Oh my gosh! That is seriously the coolest thing I’ve ever seen! I love how your baskets turned out!! Super jealous of your experience!
